I am interested in invisible internal states; however, all of my work is made through external evidence. Searching for moments where they briefly align. The subjects are not metaphors or stand-ins but inanimate observers to an experience whose traces become inseparable from memory. A moment of violence, defeat, grief, too large to be contained only within the body or language and must be left to the scene itself to remember through photography, painting, installation, and sculpture.
My work pursues closeness and attention. Expecting not to arrive at a complete clarity but to see clearer. I am less interested in nostalgia, longing, conjuring sentiment, and softening edges. These witnesses cannot negotiate with the past, yet they function as receipts: this happened, at this place, at this time, without telling you why it was beautiful or tragic. The work begins privately but cannot end privately. Our singular lives are always shaped by something larger: our spaces, histories we inherit, relationships that form and undo us, events we cannot control. I may let them hold what I cannot carry. But I always listen.
